In 2011, Jay Austin founded GreenShield in response to an increased demand for energy efficient housing in the Southeast Missouri area. GreenShield started as a small business specializing in energy audits and steadily grew by delivering targeted solutions to comfort and efficiency problems. Determined to be the leading authority for all things building science related, GreenShield began adding services including residential and commercial building inspections, Healthy Home Assessments, and project management.
GreenShield is proud to have the following business certifications:
· Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) - GreenShield is a small business that is 100% unconditionally owned and controlled by a service-disabled veteran.
· HUBZone – GreenShield is a HUBZone certified business. The HUBZone program fuels small business growth in historically underutilized business zones.
· Service-Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (SDVE) – GreenShield participates as a certified Missouri SDVE.
· Missouri Certified Home Energy Auditor (HEA) – GreenShield is certified by the state of Missouri. This certification helps ensure that residents and businesses receive the most current cost-effective recommendations to reduce their energy consumption.
Jay Austin currently serves as GreenShield’s president and chief inspector and has performed hundreds of energy audits and building inspections for the Department of Energy’s Weatherization program, Federal Home Loan Bank, Missouri Housing Development Commission, and private sector clients.
Prior to founding GreenShield, Jay served in the United States Coast Guard, worked as a business writer, and owned a small computer business. Jay holds technical degrees and certificates from Sanford-Brown College and Three Rivers College along with multiple professional certifications from the EPA, OSHA, and the Building Performance Institute.
